Degrees of Freedom

You are the pilot.

You can only choose one:

Where

If your priority is reaching a specific destination, you must be flexible about the route. You have to be open to different vectors. If you hit rough weather, or if there’s another aircraft in your path, you need to course-correct. The flight might not look the way you planned, but you will still get to where you’re going.

How

If your priority is flying the plane in a specific way, like feeling elegance in the yoke, experiencing smooth aerodynamics, and controlling every sensation of the flight, you can do that. But you have to let the winds guide you, and you must be open to landing wherever you happen to land.

Caveat

From my experience. Maybe sometimes you can do both. But it sure feels a lot easier when you pick one, and see the second as a bonus.
